UPDATED: No Credible Threat Found After Greene Co. School Lockdown

UPDATE March 20, 2013 4:55PM

There were anxious parents and students in Greene County after they were put on lockdown today for half an hour, after a reported threat.

Greene County Superintendent David Jeck said someone called the Head Start Program on Wednesday afternoon, and said something that the school district interpreted as a threat.

As a precaution, the school district decided to put all schools in the county on lockdown.

Jeck says things happened very quickly, and they followed emergency procedures.

“We didn't have time to explain to the schools exactly what was going on,” said Jeck. “We just wanted to get that lockdown in place as quickly as we could, so we did that. And then we released information to the schools.”

The lockdown lasted for thirty minutes, then they got word from the Sheriff’s Office that the threat was “not credible.”

Lockdown status was then lifted, and a message was sent to parents.

Superintendent Jeck says they waited until it was resolved to alert parents because they didn’t want parents to panic.

The Sheriff’s Office says they will not try to make any arrests, because it turns out no one was actually threatening the school. It was just perceived that way.

"At approximately 12:35 p.m. today, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office received information from our School Resource Officer regarding the Greene County Primary School. This information warranted that lock down procedures be initiated at not only Greene County Primary School, but all Greene County Public Schools.

"Greene County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded immediately and in conjunction with school officials, collected information regarding the situation.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office tells CBS19 that all public schools in the county were placed under a lockdown Wednesday afternoon. The sheriff's office would not say why the action was taken.

A spokesperson for Greene County Public Schools released a statement confirming the schools and administration office were placed on lockdown for about 30 minutes. The release says the action was taken because of a "general threat" made to the schools.

CBS19 has a crew in Greene County working to get more information about what led to the lockdown.
