The Newsplex had the honor of sponsoring the Wounded Warriors 5K check presentation at Fridays After 5.
The UVA Foundation issued a check for more than $116,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Officials say its important they find a way to give back to those who give the ultimate sacrifice, because they're the ones who put their lives on the line, and need the most help when they return from combat.
"The Wounded Warrior Project spends a lot of time and energy helping those re-enter normal life, particularly those who who have been wounded not only physically, but those who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder," said Deborah VanEersel, Chief Administrator of the UVA Foundation.
The Wounded Warriors 5K started four years ago, and in just those four years, they've raised over $390,000.
