Medical helicopters heading to Charlottesville will soon have a new place to land, as the University of Virginia Medical Center is getting a new rooftop landing pad.
The hospital is often a destination for trauma patients from around Central Virginia. Choppers now land at a ground level pad adjacent to Crispell Street on the complex's southeastern side.
Medical Center spokesman Eric Swensen said the current pad will remain in use for those rare times when several helicopters have to land at the same moment.
The new pad should be in service some time this spring, Swensen said.
