UVa Announces $3 Billion Total in Years-long Fundraising Campaign

May 19, 2013

University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan announced Sunday the school met and exceeded its lofty fundraising goals.

The fundraising campaign began in October 2006 under previous President John Casteen. The goal was to raise $3 billion to support programs at the university.

Sullivan thanked the crowd for efforts related to the fundraising over the past seven years. Many of the contributions came from students, parents, faculty and staff.

In addition to scholarships and endowments, the money helped build or fund a number of projects at the university, including the John Paul Jones Arena and the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center.
