The Board of Visitors was in its first day of retreat on Friday.

It was the first time the full board met together since the appointment of three new members, and new Rector George Keith Martin.

They discussed topics including the strategic plan, the administration's proposal on big data, financial aid, and keeping students' debt at a minimum.

Martin says the new members bring talents that will help the school as it moves forward.

"We're really pleased with the new appointments and I think they're going to be just tremendous assets to the board as, number one, we develop the strategic plan, and look at other priorities at the university," said Martin.

They will meet again Saturday the second day of the retreat.
