Center for Politics Hosting Va. Political History Project

July 7, 2013

Local teachers and students are about to get a civics lesson from the UVa. Center for Politics.

It's almost time for the 15th-annual Virginia Political History Project.

The Center for Politics will host a two-day conference. On Tuesday, the focus is how teachers can integrate civics and technology in the classroom while helping kids talk about their opinions.

On Wednesday, it's a living history day full of activities and re-enactments for kids to watch and learn.

"Just to show them how civics can be fun and interesting but also why it's important," said Geoff Skelley, a political analyst with the Center for Politics. "They're the future leaders of our country and why they actually need to know what's going on, and I think plenty of studies have shown that civics education in this country is not doing so well so we need to focus time and energy on it."

The conference will take place at the Center for Politics.
