UVa Holds Constitution Day Celebration for Hundreds of Students

Sept. 17, 2013

Actors playing Patrick Henry and Alexander Hamilton debated the Bill of Rights at the University of Virginia Center for Politics on Tuesday afternoon.

Eight-hundred middle and high school students came from all around Virginia to UVa for Constitution Day celebrations.

The students spent the day in Old Cabell Hall learning about the constitution, and asking questions to characters from history.

Center for Politics Instructor Meg Heubeck says all Americans should get to know the Constitution.
"We're all familiar with apple pie, we know how to make apple pie. It's kind of ubiquitous with being American. But the Constitution should also be something that we're really familiar with, and something that we know a lot about."

The students also watched a video on how important the Constitution is to our government.
