On Tuesday, employees and volunteers at the University of Virginia Children's Hospital celebrated National Volunteer Week by building more than 450 bears for kids.

The young patients are able to take the bears home after receiving treatment.

"It's amazing the fear that some of the individuals can have about the procedure they are undergoing or just the different environment...and a bear can bring a smile in the toughest of times," says Bob Larsen, manager of community relations.

The project coincides with the opening of the Battle Building for outpatient services at the hospital.
