If you live east of Charlottesville, next month the doctor's office is going to get a lot closer to home.

On August 26th, the UVa Medical Park Zion Crossroads will have its grand opening and people living in Fluvanna, Orange and Louisa counties will have primary and special care in their own neck of the woods.

"I do have a few complications that I attend Uva for so this will be closer for me to go and so much better," said Beverly Johnson who lives in Troy.

"I think it'll make people feel more comfortable because of the access to it. And just knowing it's there," Somerset resident, Cheryl Breeden said.

"We're bringing Uva physicians close to you in a way that we've never been able to do before," UVa Medical Center's Chief of Clinical Operations, Wes Campbell said.

The new 45,000-square-foot facility is right off of Route 15, on Spring Creek Parkway.

It will provide primary care and lots of on-site specialists for various treatments.

"Everything from breast surgery to spine surgery," Campbell said.

The project began several years ago because Zion Crossroads was a thriving area and getting more populated.

"We knew we needed to get closer to our patients and put our physicians in the communities where they live," said Campbell.

"It makes me feel good. I don't have to go all the way to Charlottesville and it's right in the surrounding are where I live," Johnson says.

Breeden says the facility is an important addition to the community but thinks an emergency department would be even more important.

"By the time the ambulance comes here, by the time you get to the hospital, I mean it's critical for the people here to know that they have something where we could have medical care, right away," she said.

This primary and special care center comes after UVa Medical Center opened one up in Augusta County and Culpeper.
