UPDATE: UVa Professor Denies Allegations of Stealing From School

UVa Professor Paul Allaire is responding to allegations he stole up to a million dollars from the ROMAC Industrial Program he presided over at the engineering school for the past decade.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Allaire vehemently denies any wrongdoing. The statement reads in part, "When all evidence is presented to the Faculty Senate and Provost, Dr. Allaire is confident it will show he has violated no laws and no state or university policies or regulations."

The statement also says the matter is before an independent panel of Faculty Senate members. According to those members, this type of review process only begins once a faculty member has received written notice for recommendation for termination or suspension. UVa officials could not confirm or deny if that is the case for Allaire, since it's a confidential process.

However, university officials say Allaire is still a professor, although course listings show he is not teaching any classes this semester, and is no longer the Director of the ROMAC.

The statement does not acknowledge the criminal investigation against Allaire, which police say is ongoing. It's important to note, no charges have been filed.

This is the full statement released by Dr. Paul Allaire's attorneys:

"Professor Paul Allaire,a long-time highly respected tenured chaired professor at the University of Virginia, vehemently denies recent reporting that he may have diverted money from the University. Pursuant to usual University policy, this matter is before an independent Panel of the Faculty Senate. When all evidence is presented to the Faculty Senate and Provost, Dr. Allaire is confident it will show he has violated no laws and no state or University policies or regulations. Until the University process plays out, he will have no further comment."
