Researchers at UVa are trying to help diabetes patients deal with their disease without using medication.
Dozens diagnosed with Type Two Diabetes are a part of the trial. Doctors are hoping with the right diet and exercise, they can get these people to control their blood sugar levels without needing insulin shots, or other drugs. The goal is to help them get rid of the disease entirely.
"Not only do they burn that excess glucose, or sugar, but they also make their bodies more sensitive,” says UVa Professor Dr. Daniel Cox. “They start to reverse their diabetes with the exercise."
Results from the research are expected sometime next year.
