UVa. Students, Athletes Participate in Bone Marrow Drive

April 23, 2013

University of Virginia students came out Tuesday for the fourth annual Be The Match Bone Marrow Drive, put on by Mike London and the UVa. football team.

The event benefits the Be The Match Foundation, and emphasizes the importance of signing up for the National Bone Marrow Registry.

In addition to signing people up today, Mike London also presented a check for $5,000 to the foundation.

London says he knows the importance of being a match first-hand.

"Personal story of me being a donor to my daughter, Tyson, back in 2001, a procedure that saved her life. And now you feel blessed that you have the opportunity to give back"

London says in the last four years more than one thousand people have signed up for the registry through this drive, and some have been matches.
