University of Virginia senior swimmer Lauren Perdue received accolades Sunday afternoon during halftime of the women's basketball game.
Perdue, an Olympic Gold medalist, signed autographs for children as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
"It's so great. I love seeing all the kids here and all the support I've had from Charlottesville. It's just been amazing," she said. "I'm just thankful all these people have come out to see me and get my autograph, it means a lot.
"I remember getting autographs from Olympians and thinking, 'One day, if I could possibly be in their shoes and be in their position, it would be so great,' so I'm just thankful," she said.
University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan and athletic director Craig Littlepage recognized Perdue for her achievements at halftime of the women's basketball game against Georgia Tech.
