Jan. 2, 2014
It's officially 2014, and one family not only welcomed the new year, but also a new baby.
Isabella Nicole was born at 2:35 a.m. at the University of Virginia Medical Center on January 1st, weighing 7 pounds 2.8 ounces.
Isabella was due on the first, so when Tonia Alcantar-Chaires' water broke on Dec. 31, she wasn't sure if little Isabella was going to arrive early. Dad-to-be, Apolinar Puente, rushed to the hospital, excited to bring the new baby girl into the world.
"We live in Culpeper, so was a long trip to get here. I was driving a little over the speed limit because I was worried," said Puente.
When the couple finally made it to the hospital, they had to play the waiting game. Finally after 20 hours of labor Isabella Nicole was born.
"There was a lot of emotion, and when I saw her head come out, it's a feeling that you can even say, you just feel it inside yourself, but it feels wonderful," Puente said.
This is the couple's first baby. They say she'll certainly bring big changes for the new year, but they think 2014 will be the best year yet.
