In celebration of Black History Month, Just Lyricz, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated and the University of Virginia's Office of African American Affairs held an open mic Thursday evening.
The event took place at the University of Virginia's Newcomb Hall. Students and staff recited poetry and sang songs.
" Everybody is coming up, artists, coming and doing a couple different pieces, just to celebrate their history and where they've come from and they're blessed to be here and thankful," said Vaugn Yountz of the Lyrics Lounge.
Just Lyricz meets the first and third Thursday of the month at Random Row Books.
