VDOT Replacing Bridge on McMullen Mill Rd.

July 22, 2014

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be replacing part of the McMullen Mill Road bridge over the South River in Standarsville.

VDOT will be replacing the upper portion of the bridge, including the support beams and bridge deck.

Officials say they are trying something a little different with the construction to make things easier for residence.

“In this case, not to block access for the residents that live past the bridge,” says VDOT Communications Manager Stacy Londrey. “We're doing a series of short term closures to do different aspects of the work. So, beginning tomorrow the crews will be out there with a train, crane contractor to install a pedestrian bridge that will be in place for the duration of the project.”

Construction on the bridge starts Wednesday, July 23, and will run through mid-August.

The bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and for 24-hours at some point in August.
