The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be holding a public hearing for proposed improvements to the U.S. 29/U.S. 250 Bypass interchange in Charlottesville.

VDOT proposes the addition of one southbound lane along U.S. 29 by widening in the median and an additional lane along the westbound entrance ramp onto the U.S. 250 Bypass by widening to the outside of the existing ramp. The traffic signal at Angus Road will be upgraded to accommodate the proposed improvements.

Also included in this project is the construction of new sidewalk between Morton Drive and Angus Road. The proposed sidewalk will be located in the U.S. 29 median, which provides the safest and quickest pedestrian route.

The project’s estimated cost is $11.15 million and is subject to change as the design is finalized. It is slated for advertisement in fall 2014, with construction beginning the following spring.

The hearing will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Holiday Inn Charlottesville (University Area), 1901 Emmet Street, Charlottesville, VA 22901. VDOT staff will be available during the hearing to discuss the projects and answer questions. Written comments can also be submitted by Dec. 7, 2012, to Mike Jacobs, Project Manager, 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701.

Project plans and environmental documents, as well as right of way and easement information, will be available for review at the public hearing, as well as at VDOT’s Culpeper District Office.
