VDOT to Temporarily Close I-64 Ramp at Zion Crossroads

April 21, 2014

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the Interstate 64 westbound exit ramp at Zion Crossroads (exit 136) briefly Monday evening.

During the closure, VDOT contractor Corman Construction Inc. will make adjustments to an overhead sign as part of their warranty work following completion of the Zion Crossroads diverging diamond interchange (DDI).

Work is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Monday, reducing the ramp to one lane. At around 10 p.m. the ramp will be shut down completely for one hour while the sign is removed and rehung overhead. The ramp will be reopened to its full width at 11 p.m.

Drivers wanting to access Route 15 from westbound I-64 will be detoured to exit 129 (Black Cat Road, Keswick) and should use I-64 eastbound to return to exit 136.

The $6.88 million project to reconfigure the interchange as a DDI was completed April 15. It is the first diverging diamond interchange in Virginia.
