Operation Blessing International, a Virginia Beach humanitarian group, is shipping water purification devices to the typhoon-ravaged Philippines.
The devices being sent from its Chesapeake warehouse include a chlorine generator used to disinfect more than 300,000 gallons of water each day, along with five smaller, portable units that run off car batteries.
The group says 40 staff members from its unit based in the Philippines are helping with disaster relief in multiple locations. The teams will be involved in clearing operations so that workers and supplies can be brought in.
Authorities said at least 2 million people in 41 provinces were affected by the powerful typhoon that hit Friday.
