Virginia National Guard Soldiers conducted more than 70 missions in response to this week's snow storm.

Soldiers worked with Virginia State Police to assist and transport local fire, police and emergency medical personnel.

They also helped stranded drivers and other citizens.

“The civilian population were very receptive and seemed to appreciate our presence, waving hello and ‘thumbs up’ signs were common during our rounds,” said Spc. Savannah Conley from Company B, 116th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Soldiers from Company B conducted route assessment patrols and assisted stranded motorists in the Manassas and Leesburg areas.

More than 200 guard personnel were stationed in Virginia starting Wednesday, Feb. 12th, to give support during the storm.

Governor Terry McAuliffe authorized up to 300 soldiers when he declared a state of emergency on Tuesday.
