Va. Mother Charged after Boy Left in Hot Car Dies

July 6, 2013

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - The mother of an 8-month-old baby who died after being left in a hot car has been charged with felony child neglect.

Arlington County police say 32-year-old Zoraida Magali Conde Hernandez was arrested Friday at Inova Alexandria Hospital where she took her son. Police say she found the boy in the back seat.

Alexandria police said the boy was apparently left in his mother's car while she was at work in Arlington. On Saturday, police said the incident was unintentional.

The infant was in the car as the mother worked for six hours. She intended to drop the boy off at day care and didn't realize the baby was in the car until she went to pick up another child at day care.

The high temperature Friday was 90 degrees.
