Va Pilot Killed in Danville Crash was Practicing Landing

Sept. 9, 2013

Federal investigators say a student pilot killed in a plane crash at Danville Regional Airport was practicing solo landing.

A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board says 42-year-old Dr. Scott Banuleos was making his third landing attempt on Aug. 29 when his Piper Warrior II hit an antenna along the runway.

Banuelos' flight instructor told investigators that he was flying on a supervised solo flight.
