WAVERLY, Va. (AP) - A Virginia correctional officer is recovering from a stab wound after attempting to break up a fight between two inmates.
The Virginia Department of Corrections says the stabbing occurred Thursday at Sussex 1 state prison in Waverly.
The correctional officer was stabbed with a metal object in the upper right area of his chest after responding to the fight between the inmates.
The officer was treated in Richmond and is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.
The Corrections Department did not identify the correctional officer.
