The unemployment rate in Virginia dropped to 5.5 percent, more than 2 percent lower than the national average.
December was the third consecutive month to see a decline in jobless numbers, as well as marking the lowest unemployment rate in four years.
Manufacturing and the financial sector saw the most employment gains in the state.
The nation unemployment average is currently 7.8 percent
