The Virginia General Assembly has confirmed the state's first openly gay judge.
Judge Tracy Thorne-Begland got votes from 66 House members, and 28 senate members today, well above the fifty percent majority needed.
In 2012 the House rejected Thorne-Begland's nomination in a late-night special-session vote.
He was later appointed anyway, by the Richmond Circuit Court, where he's been serving for several months.
