A man continues to recover at the University of Virginia Medical Center on Saturday night as another man is under arrest after a shooting in Augusta County.

Police arrested 35-year-old Jerome Jones and charged him with attempted murder and two other firearm charges.

Police say officers responded to a home in Verona around 7 a.m. Saturday and found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, but police say they don't have an update on his current condition.

Neighbors in the area said they were surprised a shooting like this could happen so close to home.

"I am concerned and worried," said Stephen Crist, who lives near the place of the shooting. "I moved my family to Newport News to a town that I thought that was small and safe. It is scary to have something like that happen in this area."

Police said this was an isolated incident and there's no apparent threat to the public.
