RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The sixth edition of the state's annual gathering of growers, trade officials and foreign dignitaries is beginning its two-day run in Richmond.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe is the scheduled keynote speaker Thursday for the opening of the Governor's Conference on Agricultural Trade. The governor typically releases the latest trade figures. In 2012, Virginia exports topped $2.6 billion.

Soybeans, tobacco, grains, pork and poultry are among the state's biggest farm and forestry exports. The No. 1 destination for Virginia products has been China.

Besides farm and trade officials, the gathering will also include a large presence from the state's land-grant schools, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

The conference will also feature remarks from the Japanese and Vietnamese ambassadors to the United States, among others.
