The Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire Department has received a $25,000 grant, from a competition by State Farm Insurance.
Officials say the money will be used to say thank you to the volunteers who have been serving the residents of Fluvanna County for more than 40 years.
The department hope to attract new volunteer rescue workers to the community.
They also plan to use of the money to restore some services that were stopped because of recent budget cuts.
The Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire Department is one of 40 recipients of this award in the country, and the only one in Virginia.
