Volunteers in Albemarle Co. Participate in Soup for Seniors

Jan. 20, 2014

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, several service projects are underway in our area.

At the Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) in Albemarle County, volunteers are participating in a canned food drive called Soup for Seniors.

Local companies, organizations and individuals have been collecting canned food and non-perishable items, and on Monday volunteers sorted the donations.

“The best part is bringing all different groups to help serve their community to meet a very crucial need,” JABA Volunteer Coordinator Leanne Probst said. “Nutrition is something that many of us take for granted as we go to the grocery store and shop for our food.”

All food donations go to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Charlottesville, which supports JABA’s Food Bag Program.
