'Walk From Obesity' Raises Awareness About Disease

September 14, 2013

Many people are taking steps to end obesity all marked by a special walk in Charlottesville.

The Obesity Action Coalition held the "Walk from Obesity" event Saturday morning to raise awareness about the disease. There was music, face painting and healthy foods for people to eat.

Retired NFL player Lennie Friedman spoke about why this event was so important.

“I was invited here through [health care products producer] Covidien and a program they do with the NFL and the Living Heart Program called the Hope Program because NFL athletes struggle with this when they retire,” says Friedman.

“So this and the Walk from Obesity campaign are trying to raise awareness about obesity and help so many people out there that are really struggling with it and provide them answers and education.”

This was the first time the national event came to Central Virginia.
