Despite the rain on Saturday hundreds of people still came out for the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Charlottesville.

Around 600 people signed up for the event ahead of time, but come Saturday more than that showed up.

The walk started at Lee Park, wrapped around the Downtown Mall and ended back at the park.

The point of the walk is to raise awareness and money to help fight the disease. They hope to raise $155,000.

Sue Friedman with the Alzheimer's Association says that that money is desperately needed.

"We know that this is the epidemic of this decade and the next unless we have new treatments, a cure and prevention."

Funds were raised by teams and individuals prior to the walk, but folks could also make donations that would go towards pinwheels for a promise garden.
