The cost of parking in downtown Charlottesville is dropping.
Beginning September 1st, the rate for the Water Street Parking Lot will drop 50-cents to $2 an hour. The lowered rate will be available between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week.
One week after buying the Charlottesville Parking Center, Mark Brown said his goal is to bring more people downtown.
Brown, a Charlottesville investor who also owns the Main Street Arena, the building that houses the restaurants The Whiskey Jar and Brookville, and Yellow Cab of Charlottesville, completed the $13.8 million deal to purchase the privately held CPC on August 12.
CPC owns the land utilized for the Water Street Parking Garage along with 284 of the garage parking spaces and the adjacent surface lot. In addition, CPC manages the city-owned Market Street Parking Garage.
