A Waynesboro man is under arrest in Albemarle County and charged with multiple felonies after a car accident Friday night.
Police charged 47-year-old Gary Minnis with felony possession of marijuana, felony eluding, felony hit-and-run and other charges.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday, police say Minnis was driving southbound on Seminole Trail near the Hollymead Town Center. An officer pulled him over after he witnessed some erratic driving. When the officer approached the car, Minnis allegedly sped off.
Police say Minnis' car ran two red lights and hit a minivan at Timberwood Boulevard. He then allegedly fled the scene on foot.
No one was injured in the crash.
The responding officer was able to catch Minnis after a short chase and place him under arrest.
After his arrest, police found 137 grams of marijuana and a large amount of cash in his car. In addition to his felony charges, police say he did not have a driver's license on him, and he's also facing a misdemeanor eluding charge.
Minnis is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
