Ways to Eat Healthy During Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday is right around the corner and local businesses like Wild Wing Café in Charlottesville are gearing up for the big game.

“It's hectic controlled chaos,” says Chad Ragland, owner of Wild Wing Café. “About 75 percent of our business that day is just take-out; it's our busiest food day of the year.”

Last year they sold over 16,000 wings and they are hoping to top that this year.

Virginia eagle distributing company is prepared for Sunday too. They have a warehouse full of beer ready to send out to stores and pubs.

“This week alone we will deliver over 50,000 cases just of Bud Light, not to mention a lot of other beers in our portfolio,” says Keith Clark, sales director for the distributing company. “We do a lot of the local beers, Star Hill, Devil’s Backbone, Bold Rock as well as all of the other Anheuser Busch beers, so big weekend.”

As you are sitting in front of your television cheering on the Denver Broncos or the Seattle Seahawks it's important to keep health in the back of your mind.

Doctor Kathy Phan from Martha Jefferson Hospital says to stay away from a lot of fried foods, but when it comes to chicken wings the sauce can get you into trouble.

“The very high calorie ranch sauces are not going to be your friend,” says Dr. Phan. “Something more of an oily texture or a mustard texture would be much lower in calories.”

Also your portions should be the size of the palm of your hand.

Wines and light beers are also lower in calories, just make sure to eat and drink in moderation.
