What's Going Around: Bronchitis

February 4, 2013

It's a sickness that could stick around for a couple of weeks. In this week's What's Going Around we're focusing on bronchitis.

We're checking in with nurse practitioner Shannon Burns of Blue Ridge Internal Medicine in Charlottesville.

Symptoms of bronchitis include cough with or without sputum and can last one to three weeks.

Burns says smokers tend to have more frequent, longer and more severe episodes.

When it comes to treatment, Burns suggests drinking plenty of fluids, getting lots of rest, and using over the counter Mucinex or cough suppressants.
