In this week's What's Going Around, we're taking a closer look at bronchitis.
Nurse practitioner Cindy Napier of Crozet Family Medicine says she's seeing more patients with the virus.
Symptoms include cough, which may produce clear, yellow or green mucus. Bronchitis may also be associated with a cold and sinus congestion and can last one to three weeks.
Napier says there are a few things you can do to treat bronchitis. She suggests breathing warm, humidified air from a vaporizer or a hot shower and taking acetaminophen, cold and cough medications.
The best way to prevent bronchitis is with frequent hand washing or hand sanitizers. Napier also says you should cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze to prevent the spread of germs.
