Charlottesville's newest restaurant officially opened its doors on Monday. The Whiskey Jar will be located at 227 West Main Street in the space vacated by Escafe, which is across the mall from the Main Street Arena (ice park).
Co-owner Will Richey, who also owns Revolutionary Soup, says he always wanted to open a restaurant that specializes in southern cookin'.
Richey says the food will be reminiscent of the kind of food your "great-grandmother used to make, almost everything is made from scratch". He says they will cook with local ingredients and even use meats from the pigs raised on his Esmont Farm.
The restaurant will also have an extensive whiskey selection and offer whiskey flights so patrons can sample a variety of whiskey. The restaurant will also feature live, local music.
It will be open for lunch and dinner beginning on Monday, and then after several weeks, breakfast will be served on the weekends.

soft opening...hard opening....they were open and we were there with no special invitition....regardless, it was a mess and they need to get it together.
I think you may have been there during the soft open, as they only just opened to the public today. I'd expect things to improve now that they're open for real.
