Willie Nelson Headlines Benefit Concert for C'ville Nonprofit

September 15, 2013

Country music legend Willie Nelson's recent Charlottesville visit has helped bring in tens of thousands of dollars for a local nonprofit organization.

Nelson headlined a benefit concert at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion Sunday night for Local Food Hub.

Nelson's son's band, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, opened the show.

Local Food Hub had a tent at the event to raise awareness about its mission. The organization works to support family farms and increase community access to local food.

Local Food Hub raised about $50,000 from the benefit concert and sponsors.

In a press release, Local Food Hub says Nelson is a "long-time advocate and supporter of family farms."

In the release, executive director Kristen Suokko says, “This benefit concert is a tremendous opportunity for Local Food Hub to not only raise funds for our mission, but to also raise awareness about the importance of family farmers and local food to our community. Willie’s lifelong connection and dedication to agriculture is an inspiration to all of us at Local Food Hub. We are thrilled to have his support.”
