Stores that sell outdoor gear are getting a late-season boost from people in need of winter gear.
Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, at Barracks Road Shopping Center in Charlottesville, is still prominently displaying its winter coats.
"People are still coming in buying some of our winter gear," said sales associate Mark Andrews. "We still have people coming in buying gloves and hats and base layers."
There are signs of spring in the store, including 23 kayaks that are packed into the storage room, ready to be put on display.
"I think they want to be coming in buying gear for Spring Break or some type of vacation," said Andrews.
Isidor Lacey, age nine, is sick of having his soccer practices cancelled due to bad weather.
"I'm really mad about it," Lacey said. "I wish it was all sunny and happy."
It's also not great weather to be a college student.
"It is pretty inconvenient," said U.Va. third year Ashleigh Rogers. "Especially having to go to class in the rain and being cold in March."
But having winter storms in March in Central Virginia is not out of the norm.
"On March first we still carry a 56 percent chance of seeing snow," said CBS19 Meteorologist Brantley Ussery. "We've been paying the price for all the warm weather that we had in the month of December and early January. Mother nature definitely likes to balance things out. If you have a lot of warm weather at the start, you're more than likely going to wrap things up on a bit of a colder note."
Charlottesville has had accumulating snow as late as the third week of April.
