Witness Testifies Against Alleged Abductor

February 7, 2013

A man accused of an attack on a UVa student last fall was in court Thursday, and now we’re learning new details about what police say happened.

Matthew Beaulieu has been in jail since November 9, when police say he attacked a student on Stadium Road.

The alleged victim in the case testified about what happened, saying she was grabbed from behind and was kicking and screaming as she was dragged towards a car.

She says her masked attacker gave up and drove away. The witness identified Beaulieu by the type of car he was driving.

Matthew Beaulieu was taken into custody on Interstate 64 a few minutes after the attack. An officer asked him if he knew why he was being arrested and Beaulieu said, “because I attacked somebody.”

Beaulieu has been charged with Abduction with Intent to Defile.
His lawyer request that the charge of Intent to Defile be removed.

Matthew Beauileu’s next court date will be on February 19.
