Albemarle County police are investigating an incident at Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport.
According to airport police, a car ended up on the runway overnight Tuesday.
Police say around 1:00 a.m. 33-year-old Christina Jewell, from Charlottesville, crashed her vehicle into the airport fence. Police pulled her over on the runway and charged her with D.U.I.
"The airport police were able to control the airways to make sure there weren't any planes that were landing; that was a primary concern," says Carter Johnson from the Albemarle Co. police department.
"So they were able to divert any air traffic and make sure the runways were clear, and then our officers were able to respond and quickly make the arrest," says Johnson.
Airport officials were able to repair the fence quickly after the incident and say no flights were delayed because of the incident.
