Woman fatally shot in Newport News home invasion

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Police in Newport News say a woman has been fatally shot and another woman wounded in a home invasion.

Police tell media outlets that three men forced their way into an apartment in Newport News shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday after one of the occupants answered a knock on the door.

Police say a 32-year-old woman was shot in the head during the altercation. She later was pronounced dead at the scene. A 29-year-old woman was shot in the arm and went to a convenience store to call police. The suspects fled and are being sought.

No other occupants of the apartment were hurt. Two men and four children also were inside at the time.
