Woman Indicted in Orange County Double Fatal Crash

January 25, 2011

Mildred Sue Ferguson, 52, of Charlottesville was indicted Monday in the double fatal crash that killed a Charlottesville couple.

Ferguson was indicted on two charges of involuntary manslaughter and five counts of welfare fraud.

The incident happened on July 31, 2010 on Route 20, just north of Route 609 in Orange County. Both Dale Parrot, 74, and Shirley Parrott, 58, died at the scene.

Authorities say a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Ferguson crossed a no passing line traveling north, when it struck the Explorer driven by Parrott.

After sideswiping the Explorer driven by Parrott, Ferguson's Jeep Cherokee was then struck by an oncoming Land Rover SUV.

The occupants of the Land Rover were 61-year-old Darryl R. Crump, from Orange, and 64-year-old Joan Ann Crump. Both were flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center following the incident.
