Van Johnson has boxes and boxes of food stacked in his office at City Hall. An employee with the City of Charlottesville, Johnson has been collecting food for families in Charlottesville for more than two decades.
"There was a big need 20 years ago and there is still a big need now," Johnson said. "We started this on a small scale and it's grown every year."
This holiday season, Johnson's co-workers are pitching in to make this food drive the biggest yet. So far, enough food has been collected to serve about 100 families in Charlottesville this Christmas.
"It's fun to make the deliveries," Johnson said. "Some of the families you meet, you can see in their hearts how much they appreciate it and how much they need it."
Johnson and his co-workers will be making food deliveries Tuesday through Friday.
