It's a narrow two lane country road that sees lots of traffic, and it's fair share of accidents.
"We continually have crashes involving commercial motor vehicles, especially on this stretch of highway," said Albemarle County Police Officer David Rhodes. "One of the biggest problems is the shoulders are very narrow and there's not a lot of room for error."
Roger Anthony drives a rig and says you have to take extra precaution when hauling a load on this road. "You really have to stay on top of it, because the first time you don't pay attention to what you're doing you will drift over and the next thing you know you're in the ditch."
That scenario played out around 3:00 on Monday afternoon when the driver of a dump truck veered off the road and into the ditch. A trailer carrying a backhoe being pulled by the truck flipped over.
Route 22 between Richmond Road and Club Hunt Road was shut down for three and a half hours. The cleanup took longer than usual because the road was damaged when the trailer flipped off the road.
"Large chunks of pavement were removed from the roadway, exposing gravel underneath the pavement," Rhodes said.
Crews from Virginia Department of Transportation were called to the scene to make repairs to the road.
No one was injured in the wreck. The driver of the dump truck did receive a citation for failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
