Tea Party members say if President Obama and Senate leaders want to get a deal done on the fiscal cliff, they need more compromise, starting with spending cuts.
"A balanced approach would be if you're raising taxes, it also means balancing with cutting spending," said Carole Thorpe, a member of the Jefferson Area Tea Party. "We believe the American people are taxed enough already. We have a spending problem, not a revenue problem."
Tea Party members have been unusually quiet throughout the fiscal cliff debacle, but members of the Jefferson Area Tea Party say they are working from the inside out.
"Quiet is not invisible," said Thorpe. "What confuses people is in the beginning of the Tea Party we were in the streets a lot. We had a lot of rallies and a lot of protests. That's evolved now, we've gone to the halls of government.
When the newly elected Congress officially takes office on Thursday, there will be more Tea Party members on Capitol Hill than ever before.
