For most teams, a 7-3 regular season and a regional playoff berth would be considered a success. With the expectations Louisa had last year, the Lions considered that result a disappointment, and look to make improvements for 2010.
Mark Fischer's squad returns a group of experienced players that know what it takes to make the playoffs, and they're using last year's first round regional loss to Liberty Bealton as motivation. Look for the Lions to bring the same dominant running game that they have in the past, and they may add a few more passes this year, but Fischer is quick to point out that the team will not move away from its bread and butter in the running game. Louisa has put in a full summer's worth of tough conditioning and hope it pays off come the season.
2010 is about more than just wins and losses for the Lions. They'll be playing for a teammate who collapsed during a summer conditioning workout and was airlifted to UVa Medical Center, where it was discovered that he had leukemia. Louisa will be playing with the number 63 on all their helmets to honor their teammate and will wear wristbands and ribbons on their jerseys as well.
