The 2009 Louisa Lions football team has high hopes and expectations for the upcoming season. Mark Fischer and company completed a remarkable turnaround last year, but still have their sites set on much higher goals.
2007 was a season that the Lions would like to forget, as they stumbled to a 3-7 record, but they appeared to shake it off well last season, posting a mark of 7-3. The losses came to some pretty impressive teams, including Monticello, who went to the state semifinals. Orange and Courtland accounted for the other two blemishes on Louisa's record, but the team still posted a successful season.
The Lions hope 2009 has even bigger things in store. They return a key group of experienced veterans and have a good mix of experience and young talent. Many of the players on last year's team were making their first varsity appearances, and that young team was still able to finish 7-3 on the year. Louisa puts experience under center in Dillon Hollins, who will take the snaps in his second year of quarterback duties.
Louisa will kick off its 2009 campaign at Eastern View on September 4, and hold its first Jefferson District contest on September 25 at William Monroe. Click on the above video link to view Jed Gamber's complete preview on the 2009 Louisa Lions.
