For this week's segment of Make Dan Sweat, CBS19's Dan Schutte went for an early morning run with several women training for the Charlottesville Women's 4-Miler.
Thousands of women participate in the Charlottesville Four Miler every year. The run raises hundreds of dollars to help fight breast cancer.
"I'm a four year survivor of breast cancer, so it means a lot to me," said Carol Sanders, a breast cancer survivor. "This will be my third race as a walker, and it's just awesome to see everybody come out and support such a good cause."
The 12 week program helps train women for the run which will take place on September 3.
"It's a 12 week program, and a lot of these ladies are beginners who have never even walked in the race before," explained Theresa "Sarge" Bulluck, a trainer.
The training program began as a couple of women meeting twice a week, but it has escalated into a full scale training program which meets five days a week.
"We decided to have a satellite out here because there were so many ladies approaching us at the track," said Bulluck.
"It's pretty unique, we've got women from all walks, all ages, it is nice to see everyone work together is just great," said Sanders.
The women help to cheer each other on as they work together to conquer the hills in the course.
"The energy of this group is just great, they are very positive they look out for each other, they are all in it together," said Bulluck.
