Heading into the first full week of the regular season for High School football. The stakes couldn't be much higher than the game on Friday night at the new turf field at Monticello High School.

The Mustings will face off with the Albemarle Patriots for both teams regular season opener, with a shot at the city-county trophy on the line. Monticello has gotten the most of the Pats in recent years, having won the last two meetings and five of the last six.

This year also marks the start of the Wendell Green regime at Albemarle High School. After spending the past few seasons working under Rick Vrhovac, Green looks to take the Patriots out of mediocrity and into the post season. It all starts on Friday night at 7 on the new turf field at Monticello High School.

m- what to well-endowed coaches have to do with a team?? If you meant well compensated, the state of VA has nothing to do with that. Each school division pays their employees, and NoVa coaches probably DO make more because the CoL is higher up there and there's some competition for their talent. And Alb. isn't in Div. 1... they're Div. 5. If you don't like it, they could play up against the larger schools in Div. 6. Either way, that has no effect on how you do against local teams.

Jed, Lets get one thing clear that is not clear in this article. AHS is not in the Jefferson district. The AHS team must travel to Northern Virginia to play games against schools that have equiptment, fields, coaches that are well endowed by the state of VA, and the communities. All of them look like a upscale ACAC, with flat screen tv's, in the locker rooms. Get AHS out of the division I and we may have a chance against our local HS school.
